Group Announcements Upcoming StuffOkay, next Tuesday (October 19) we will be having our first official Math League Competition.
Before we take it though, we will be taking an older Math League test as practice. A side note: Get your Mu Alpha Theta Dues in! We need to have Mr. Sparkman register our chapter of Mu Alpha Theta before we can take part in the upcoming Rocket City Competition. And as always, remember to take your binders home. We're getting into groups of 3, and planning what our projects will be.
Next tuesday is the end of the year party! Scholarship CompetitionOkay, Melissa just got an email from collegeboard about this competition called Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology. Here's the text:
Dear Student,
Administered by the College Board, the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology is designed for talented high school students like you. Given your academic talents, you have been identified as a strong candidate for this competition. Not only can you earn money for college but this competition also attracts the attention of prestigious universities. Summer is the perfect time to get started on your project!
The Siemens Competition promotes excellence in science, technology, engineering and math. Students undertake scientific research projects improving their understanding of the value of scientific study.
Who can compete? You may enter an individual project if you are in your senior year this fall. If you're not going to be a senior by then, you can submit a team project. Work with one or two friends — all of you must be in high school, but none of you need to be seniors. You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to enter.
How much can you win?
When is the deadline? Your project must be received by October 1, 2010, 5 p.m. ET.
Sounds good. BindersGuys, remember to bring your binders to the meetings. Keep them in your locker if you have to, or give to someone else to keep in their locker (ideally, someone in Math Cub).
Just bring your binders. AlcumusThere's this (free, for now) program/system on the art of problem solving website called Alcumus.
They say it's interactive, and it seems useful. Check it out: Here's the link, you might need to enable popups on your browser: http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/Alcumus/Introduction.php Mountain View ResultsCongratulations to Melissa, Daniaal, and Sang for getting 3rd, 2nd, and 1st respectively at the Mountain View Wildcat Invitational.
